Acupuncture is known as an imported health care system from China. It is also understood as traditional Chinese medicine or Oriental Medicicne which has a history of more than 2000 years. Acupuncture is a part of the Oriental medicine which includes natural herb medicine, moxibustion, cupping, and Chinese physiscal therapies including tai chi.  However, this traditional medicine has been widely introduced through needle acupuncuture in America. Needle acupuncture alone works much of this traditional medicine, even though natural herb is well prescribed with it.

Acupuncture treats diseases by punctureing certain points in the human body with metal needles.  Hairlike thin, sterile and disposable needles are inserted into points along the energy channels in the body to stimulate the fold of energy.  There are 14 major channels in our body which govern the whole body system.  12 channels also called meridians are located each side of the body as a pair and one mid line of the front body, and the other midline of the back.  These major energy channel course through the human body including the head, body, arms, hands, legs, feet, and internal organs.

It promotes smooth circulation of the channels to get body balance of Yin & Yang, which is known as homeostasis to treat diseases and to prevent them.

According to biochemical ans neurological research, acupuncture works by activiating a natural pain-suppression system in the brain.  Acupuncture has the systemic effect of increasing endorphins which leads to pain relief, enhanced energy and vitality as well as strengthening the body's immune sysem so that it has the ability to fight the disease.  It is not a painful procedure, nor side affects, but calming and restoring body function balanced to homeostasis. Also, it is developed for cosmetic skin care and helps body weight control bringing an aid of behavior changes.

The intent of acupuncture therapy is to promote health and alleviate pain and suffering. The method by which this is accomplished, though it may seem strange and mysterious to many, has been time tested over thousands of years and continues to be validated today. The perspective from which an acupuncturist views health and sickness hinges on concepts of "vital energy," "energetic balance" and "energetic imbalance." Just as the Western medical doctor monitors the blood flowing through blood vessels and the messages traveling via the nervous system, the acupuncturist assesses the flow and distribution of this "vital energy" within its pathways, known as "meridians and channels". The acupuncturist is able to influence health and sickness by stimulating certain areas along these "meridians". Traditionally these areas or "acupoints" were stimulated by fine, slender needles. Today, many additional forms of stimulation are incorporated, including herbs, electricity, magnets and lasers. Still, the aim remains the same - adjust the "vital energy" so the proper amount reaches the proper place at the proper time. This helps your body heal itself. Acupuncture is just one form of therapy used within the coherent system of healing known as Oriental Medicine. Oriental Medicine includes herbology, physical therapy, dietetics and special exercises (such as Tai Chi and Qi Gong), and is a complete medical system unto itself and is not another branch of modern Western medicine. Acupuncture evolved from principles and philosophies unique to Oriental thinking and Oriental Medicine, and is most effectively applied when done in accordance with those principles.
